Carl Larry Saxton, Sr., 79, of Canton, MS, died Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.
Mr. Saxton was born on June 26, 1942, to the late James Calvin Saxton and Nancy Gladys Saxton. His friends and family affectionately called him “Big L,” however, his favorite names to be called were “Daddy” and “Pawpaw.” Larry served as a sergeant with the Canton Police Department and served the Madison County Sheriff’s department as a Deputy Sheriff and an Investigator for over 33 years.
Larry gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Canton He was elected deacon in 1985 at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton and at the time of his death was a deacon at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason at the Canton Masonic Lodge. He was also a Shriner.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, James Calvin Saxton; his mother, Nancy Gladys Saxton; brother, James Arthur Saxton and sister, Odene Saxton McKay. He is survived by his youngest brother, Harry Saxton of Vicksburg.
Mr. Saxton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Haynes Saxton; sons Larry Saxton Jr. (Tammye) of Canton, MS; Jimmy Saxton (Missy) of Madison, MS; daughters Nancy Saxton of Canton, MS and Stacey Coffey (Mike) of Madison, MS. He leaves nine grandchildren to cherish his memory; Stuardt Saxton, Cody Saxton (Kayla), Jacob Saxton, Joshua Saxton, Caleb Saxton, Chris Krzyzkowski, Ryan Saxton (Jessica), Ericka Coffey, and Logan Coffey. He is survived by six great grandchildren; Deacon Krzyzkowski, Callie Ann Krzyzkowski, Waylon Coffey, Miles Saxton, Maverick Saxton, and Ellie Bet Saxton.
The family wishes to express its sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. David Carroll and Dr. Joe Walter Terry III, for their care over the years, as well as the nurses with Sta-Home Health Care and all of the nurses along the way.
