Betty Martin, 93, of Warren, MN, formerly of Oslo, MN, passed away on Thursday evening, October 8, 2015 at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.

Betty was born on November 27, 1921 in Bloomer Township, Marshall County, MN and was the 3rd of 6 children born to Henry and Mabel (Warner) Larson. She was educated in various country schools and Oslo High School, graduating in 1938. Betty attended Teacher’s Training School in East Grand Forks, MN and at the age of 17 began teaching school. She taught for 3 years. On August 6, 1942, she married Casper Martin. To this union 3 daughters were born, Mary, Rebecca and Nancy. In 1945, they purchased the Walberg farm in Oak Park Township. In 1970, Rebecca Ann passed away and her husband and 2 children lived with the Martins for 13 years. Betty and Casper moved into Oslo in 1983. Casper died on April 20, 1998. In 2008, Betty moved to the Good Samaritan Apartments in Warren and in 2015 to the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston.

She was very active with or a member of the St. Joseph’s Parish Council, Parish Leader for the Renew program, Religious educator, Marriage encounter program, TEC program, Good Neighbors Homemakers Club, 4-H leader, Marshall County Council of Aging, County Coordinator for RSVP program, building committee co-chairperson with Casper for the Community/Senior Center in Oslo, organizer for Meals on Wheels, LSS Rural congregate dining program, Friends of the Old Mill and Oslo Jolly Seniors.

Betty was named 1992 Outstanding Senior Citizen for Marshall County and in 2013 received the Bishop’s Medal of Appreciation.

She enjoyed crocheting of which she made many doilies for grandchildren and wedding gifts, craft painting, calligraphy, making note stationery, Swedish weaving, camping, gardening, watching the Minnesota Twins, playing the piano and best of all playing cards.

Survivors include daughters, Mary (Joe) Keller of Montevideo, MN and Nancy Bitz of Grand Forks, ND; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-grandsons-in-law; one great-great grandson; sister-in-law, Sister Paschal Martin of Crookston, MN; Jeanne (Larson) Walters of Eveleth, MN, Phyllis (Martin) Haas of Grafton, ND and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Casper; parents; daughter, Rebecca Ann Rogalla; grandson, Lewis Rogalla; granddaughter, baby Rogalla; great-granddaughter Melissa Klawon; sisters, Grace Batko, Marjorie Siewart, Hazel Martindale and Lois Downey and brother, Ambrose Larson.
