Berniece Marie (Cruts) Doub of St. James, Mo. passed away on Februray 13, 2016 at her home.  She was 89 years, 11 months and 12 days of age.

Berniece was born in St. James on the farm March 1, 1926 to Rhaney and Lola Atkins Cruts.

She was united in marriage to Robert Pershing Doub on March 24, 1944, a soldier in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  She was a wartime bride, and she and Robert spent their honeymoom in North Carolina.  They were married for 7 weeks before he was shipped overseas serving in the Battle of the Bulge.

During the war years, she worked at Dillon’s Department store in St. James where she made payments for her wedding suit for her nuptials to Robert.

Berniece was a lifetime resident of St. James living in the home her father built for her and Robert at 528 East Eldon for over 65 years.

Berniece was a member of the First Church of God at St. James since childhood.  She was faithful in the Lord.  Berniece was an assistant Sunday school teacher, sang in the church

choir, and severed as church treasure.  Additionally, Berniece was a member of the Missionary Society, Willing Workers, and Tuesdays Ladies Prayer Group.

Berniece loved writing letters and sending cards to everyone she cared about.

Preceding her in death were her parents: Rhaney and Lola Atkins Cruts, her husband: Robert Pershing Doub, sister: Essie Cruts Jones, brother: Raymond Virgil Cruts, and infant brother Elmer Jacob Cruts.

Berniece is survived by her niece: Brenda Sue Jones Lyle and husband Dwight of Rolla, Mo.; great nephew Scott Lyle and wife Heidi all of Rolla, Mo.; nephew: Terry Raymond Jones and wife Louann, great niece Rachel Jones, and great nephew Walker Jones all of Columbia. She will be missed by her many cousins, many church friends, and family friends.
