Beatrice Pearl Parker

Shipbuilder, Dressmaker

Beatrice “Pearl” Parker went home to the Lord on June 30th at the age of 99.  She was born in Orrington, Maine on October 28, 1914 to James and Ella (Furbush) Stewart and attended schools in Sherman Mills.  Pearl was very close to her sister Estella as well as her other siblings Roy Stewart, Jr., Arthur, Everett and Harold and her sisters Mildred, Bertha and Marjorie.

Pearl married her soul mate, Archie Parker.  Together they raise their two sons, Linwood and Paul.  During World War II, Pearl joined many other women in the South Portland Shipyard working as a welder on the Liberty Ships.  She was very proud of her accomplishments there and would be called upon from time to time afterward to do small welding projects for family and friends.

Pearl was a founding member of the Munjoy Hill Church of God in Portland and later the Thornton Heights Church of God in South Portland and spent many, many exhausting hours working for her church in whatever capacity was needed.

Pearl was an accomplished seamstress and dressmaker with many upscale clients throughout Portland, Falmouth Foreside and Cape Elizabeth including one Miss America contestant.  She was also an avid gardener and raised beautiful flower gardens, particularly peonies as well as vegetable gardening and canning and freezing her own produce.

Pearl is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Archie, her son Linwood and anxiously awaited her reunion with them.  She is survived by her son Paul Parker, Sr. and his companion Sharon Gallant of Windham, granddaughter Rose (Parker) Stansfield, (whom she raised from infancy) and her husband Robert of Gray.  She is also survived by grandchildren Linwood A. Parker Jr., Connie Brown, Paula Cooper, Rodney Parker, Norma Crooker, Shelly Kenney, Dana Parker, Andy Parker, Russell Parker, Debra McClean and Joseph Parker along with many, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She mourned the loss of grandchildren Paul Parker Jr., Darrell Parker and Laurel Laliberte.
