Basil Humphreys, Jr., of Ionia, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2022 at the age of 89. Basil was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather born on October 10, 1932 in Montrose, Colorado to Basil and Mary Ann (Rice) Humphreys. He was a graduate of Leslie High School in Leslie, Michigan and was a devoted member of the Temple Baptist Church in Ionia for much of his life. Basil was a man of great faith, he spent many hours studying his bible and praying for his family. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, football, automobiles, golfing, and gardening. He also loved music and was a talented singer and guitarist showcasing his gift in the church choir for many years. On various occasions, Basil could be heard singing and playing his guitar at family functions.
Preceding Basil in death are his parents; wife, Ardis Humphreys; son, Ricky Humphreys; granddaughters, Erica (Humphreys) Ewing and Leah Whitney; grandson, Jonathon Humphreys; and siblings, Calvin Humphreys and Nancy (David) Austen. Basil is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Gieszl) Humphreys; children, Rose Huhn, Rebecca Whitney, Joel Humphreys, Scott Humphreys, Dan Humphreys, Joy (Steve) Arnold, Linda Tarrant, Mike (Renee) Tarrant, Cindy (Bob) Norris, David Tarrant, David (Mary) Geivett, Jennifer (Jason) Humrichous, Gwendolyn (Joshua) Wilhite, Julianne Geivett, Annamarie (Peter) Edgar; many special grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and former wife, Faith Sutliff.
