Arthur “Buff” Heaney, 66, of rural Warren, MN, passed away on Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2009 at his home with his family by his side.

Arthur Heaney was born on Jan. 15, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Donald and Frances (Olsen) Heaney. He was raised in the Big Bear, CA area where he attended military school. Arthur was in the US Navy from 1960 – 1964 and he served on the USS Bennington. After his discharge, he lived on the West Coast. In 1981, he moved to Thief River Falls, MN. On July 9, 1983, he married Joyce Fenning. They made their home in rural Warren. Arthur worked various jobs including Justice Brothers, D & S Auto and driving truck for Altendorf Express.

He loved all of his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Art was a dreamer who was always looking for the next big thing. He was a “drama king” who enjoyed giving lectures, hence his name “Life Lessons – 5 Wives”. Art loved the Marshall County Fair. He started the 1st Marshall County Fair Parade which has become a very popular Wednesday night tradition. Art enjoyed showing his miniature horses during fair time and would always be found at the horse stalls. He had many hobbies including camping (at Cass Lake), waterskiing, 4-wheeling, hunting and fishing.

Art was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a 4-H leader.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; father, Donald Heaney of California; children, Mike (Mindy) Martin of Indiana, Frances (Marc) Ortiz of Thief River Falls, MN, Donald (Donna) Heaney of South Carolina, Shannon Bakken of Oslo, MN, Christopher Heaney of Washington, Shawn (Eric) Hricak of Minneapolis, MN, Nicholas Heaney of Washington and Ryan (Julie) Fenning of Warren, MN; ten grandchildren, Amber Ortiz, Amaya Ortiz, Jamie Bakken, Anthony Tiani, Kasie Bakken, Megan Martin, Jeremy Nygaard, Holly Watkins, Samantha Martin and Addison Hricak; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Isaac Nygaard and Kaidyn Ortiz; honorary daughter, Jennifer Sundberg; honorary grandchild, Ann Potucek and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother; son-in-law, Israel Ortiz and grandson, Dakota Dybedahl.
