Alpha V. Liedberg, 91, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at the Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Alpha V. Risteigen was born on September 7, 1917 near Thief River Falls, the daughter of Thorsten and Thora (Thorstenson) Risteigen. She spent her early years in Oslo, MN and graduated from Oslo High School in 1935. Alpha attended teacher’s training in East Grand Forks, MN and taught country school for 3 years. She also attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND. Alpha worked at a defense plant in Grand Forks, ND making life vests. On December 4, 1943, she married Norman C. Liedberg in Oslo. They made their home in Wright Township, Marshall County, MN where they farmed. In 1990, they moved to Thief River Falls. Norman died on August 14, 2008.

Alpha was a member of Alma Free Lutheran Church where she faithfully served in all activities of the congregation. The flower gardens that she tended and her county fair exhibits were always “blue ribbon”.

Throughout her life, she fostered the curiosity and various interests of her children and grandchildren. The trips to Pine Lake will never be forgotten.

Left to mourn her passing are five children, Neil (Claire Ann) Liedberg of Thief River Falls, MN, Gay (Wayne) Galles of Moorhead, MN, Paul (Maryanne Dickey) of Dillingham, AK, Dean Liedberg of Boston, MA and James Liedberg of Warren, MN; five grandchildren, Nathan (Francine) Liedberg, Sheri (Andrew) Lallier and Jill, Karen and Aaron Galles; four great-grandchildren, Hailey and Nolan Liedberg and Shayla and Zadin Lallier; two sisters, Gladys Haarstad of Crookston, MN and Ruth Liedberg of Goodridge, MN; brother, A.W. (Peggy) Risteigen of Oslo, MN; several nieces and nephews and longtime friend, Harriette Zeimitz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; brothers, Halvor, Norman and Reuben and two sisters, Thelma Liedberg and Helen Loftus.
