Obelia Mae “OB” Messick, 80, of Elkhart, passed away on Monday evening, May 23, 2011, at her home. She was born on July 13, 1930, in Manchester, Tenn., to the late Oscar Emery and Bertha Marie (Lowe) Robinson. She married Evans Horace Messick on Feb. 4, 1950, in Rossville, Ga. He passed away May 25, 1983.

Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Jean Messick and Phyllis Ann Eger, both of Elkhart; grandchildren Charles (Angela) Eger of Elkhart and Robin Kolbus of Munising, Mich.; three great-grandchildren, Michael Kolbus and Jesse and Vada Eger; and a sister, Anita Marie Messick of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers. Obelia formerly worked at United Mills, Kinder Manufacturing, Adams and Westlake and Taylor Products. She also worked for nine years for Elkhart General Hospital in home health care. Obelia was a former member of Calvary Temple in South Bend and an active member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Elkhart, where she taught Sunday school and helped keep the church clean. She loved to shop, travel and go out to eat. She was always willing to help others in need and loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren.
