Norman Woodroe Evans, Sr., went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the eighteenth day of January, 2022. He was born August 14, 1928 to David and Mae Evans.
He was raised during the Great Depression, a retired farmer, and graduated from Lonoke High School in 1948. He was a Korean War Veteran who served 15 ½ months in Germany in the US Army. He served nine years on the Lonoke County Co-op board, two years as president, and served forty years on the Lonoke County Farm Bureau Board. He was a Baptist Deacon at Steel Bridge Baptist Church, where he and his wife served forty years and raised their five children. He and his wife baptized and married their children there. He served his remaining years at New Testament Baptist Church since 1993. He was a Gideon, raised a master Mason of Lonoke Lodge #51 in 1953. He was the Master of the Lodge in 1985. A member of the Lonoke Eastern Star, a 32nd degree Mason for over thirty five years and a member of the Royale Arche 002 over 50 years. Oxidental Counsel #1 over fifty years. Hugh Depayne commander #1 Knights Templar in Little Rock over fifty years. He was an American Legion post # 200.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mae Evans; his wife of fifty six years, Elizabeth Evans; one brother, David Evans; three sisters, Helen Robinson, Ellen Rye, and Ruby Adcock; one granddaughter, Stephanie Mantooth; one grandson, Norman Woodroe Evans, lll, and his two grade school friends from James school in Bayou Meto, Earl Buddy Gibbins and J.T. Gautney.
He is survived by his siblings and their families; Troy Evans, Lenville and Sandra Evans; his five children; Ann Mantooth, Norma Fay Cox, Mary and Tom Deaton, Pastor Woody and Sherry Evans, and Diane Mask; three granddaughters, Kimberly Kethley-Sapp, Kadie Hartgraves, and April Manning; seven grandsons, Shawn Mantooth, Richard Kethley, Thomas Deaton, Jr., Matthew Mask, Zachary Mask, Lucas Evans, and Eli Mask; seventeen great grandchildren; one special family, Gib, Kim Brad, Eva and Zac Richardson, his beloved companion, Mrs. Joyce Pack (“Sweetie”), and his oldest living friend, Jack Fitzhugh, Sr.
