Norman P. Knochel

March 3, 1921 – January 7, 2011

Mr. Knochel passed away peacefully early Friday morning January 7, 2011 at Huron Woods Nursing Center. Age 89 years. He was born on March 3, 1921 to the late Fred and Nettie (Wieland) Knochel in Bay County and has resided here all of his life. Norm retired as a farmer, was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and was active in its World Relief activities at home and abroad. He served it the United States Army during World War II from July 1942 until September 1945. He served in the European Theatre on the front lines under General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years the former Leanore Dining whom he married on February 22, 1947 and she survives his passing along with six children; Eileen Knochel of Linwood, Wayne Knochel of Linwood, Jim (Kay) Knochel of Linwood, Jerry (Michelle) Knochel of Pinconning, Patsy (Michael) Brock of Linwood and Nettie Knochel of Linwood, ten grandchildren; Sarah Knochel, Jenay Knochel, Jamie (Nathan) Hodel, Laura Knochel and Kathy Knochel, Jeremy Knochel, Emily (Chris) Williams, Cassie Knochel, Benjamin Bragiel and Beri J. Bragiel, two great grandchildren; Haley and Delaney Hodel, two brothers; Floyd (Marian) Knochel and Fred (Helen) Knochel, two sisters; Alvina Wackerle and Laura Knapp, four sisters-in-law; Evelyn Knochel, Madeline Bledsoe, Johanna Knochel and Elinor Knochel, one brother-in-law; Kenneth Meddaugh and several nieces and nephews. Norman was preceded in death by five brothers; Harold, Alpha, Theodore, Herbert and Victor Knochel, one sister; Marie Schieler, brothers-in-law; Wallace Wackerle, Harold Schieler and Glenn Knapp and two sisters-in-law; Doris Knochel and Beatrice Meddaugh.

The Knochel family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Potts, the nurses and staff at Huron Woods Nursing Center for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Norman during his illness.
