Norman Lee Barrett was born May 21, 1943, to the late Arnetta and James Watson Barrett. He departed his life April 1, 2021 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina at the Reid Heart Center.

He was known to some as Big Norm, to some as Uncle Norman, and to others as just Norman or Papa.

He was well thought of. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was not a talker, but when he spoke everyone listened. He was very kind hearted. He helped anyone and everyone he could, even if he wasn’t heeling like it. No was not apart of his vocabulary. We all loved him, he was one of a kind.

He loved driving trucks. He drove for years, all the way up until his health started failing him and he retired. He loved the open road and being outdoors. Norman was a long-time member at Long Leaf AME Zion Church in Robbins, NC, his home church. He did not go as much when he started getting sick, but his heart was there.

Norman Lee Barrett was married to the late Martha Lee Spencer Barrett, who proceeded him in death. Two sons, Demetrius Barrett and Claudis (Toonk) Barrett and one daughter Gloria “Suzie” Barrett all proceeded him in death. As well as seven siblings, Royce Barrett, Betty Ruth Simmons, Dora McCain, Estella Person, Patricia Barrett, Edward Barrett, James Barrett.

He leaves to cherish his memories; Tyrone Spencer (Jeanette) of Eagle Springs, NC, Jane “Penny” Baker (Lavern) of Raeford, NC, Robert Barrett (Bill) of Colorado, Kenneth Barrett (Tricia) of Charlotte, NC, Norman Barrett, Jr. (Jewel) of Eastwood, NC. Two sisters, Thelma Williams and Cheryl M. Armstrong (Roger) both of Robbins, NC. Two brothers, Claudis Barrett of Biscoe, NC and Willis Barrett (Deborah) of Robbins, NC. Fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
