Norman Kruse Leonhard, 85, of Virginia, IL passed away March 20, 2012 at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
He was born March 10, 1927 in Springfield, IL; the son of Floyd McKinley and Freda Barbara Kruse Leonhard. He married Joan Jones on August 14, 1949 in Arenzville, IL and she preceded in death on December 22, 2006.
He is survived by three daughters, Karla (husband, Howard “Hank”) Daubs of Mason City, Lois (husband, John) Dotzert of rural Virginia, and Marie (husband, Bob) Parlier of rural Virginia; a brother, John F. Leonhard of St. Louis Park, MN; six grandchildren, Tina (husband, Ralph) Weller, Shawn (wife, Carmen) Daubs, Jeremy Dotzert (companion, Pam Christensen), Mandy (husband, Brad) Lyons, Jim Parlier (companion, Rebecca Elam), Chris (wife, Simone) Parlier; and nine great grandchildren, Cole and Taylor Johnson, Bella Daubs, Emma Grace and Tucker Lyons, Kyle Elam, Mark Parlier, and Lindy and Maggie Parlier.
Norman grew up in Cass County and was a 1945 graduate of Virginia High School. He served 14 months in the United States Naval Reserve Corps. He farmed jointly with his father on the family farm four miles east of Virginia, IL. During those years, he was actively involved in many Shiloh area activities and Cass County 4-H. More of his life’s ambitions over the years were, owning and operating the Leonhard Apartments, Red Shed Antiques, HiWay House Restaurant and Wash Bucket Laundry, all located in Virginia, IL. Later years found Norman and Joan traveling all over the world in their motor home and making their winter residence at the Victoria Palms Resort in Donna, TX.
