Norman Joseph DeBoever, 72, of South Bend, passed away on Saturday June 7, 2014, in his home of an extended illness. Norm was born on September 19, 1941, in Mishawaka, IN, the only son of Joseph M. and Madeline (Christiaens), who both have preceded him in death. Norm was a lifelong resident of the area. Norm is survived by his wife Patty (Deeds), of 18 years. Also surviving are a daughter; Kim (Gary) Ham of New Carlisle, IN; a son, Joseph of South Bend; three step-daughters; Marilyn Peppers of Buchanan, MI, Shelley Hadley of Niles, MI and LeeAnn Hilligoss of South Bend; two grandsons, Zackery and Matthew Dunnuck; six step-grandchildren, Jesse and Kenny Ham, Savannah and Candyce Peppers, Kourtni (Brandon) Biggs and Stone Hadley; two step-great grandchildren, Blaze and Stella Biggs; four cousins, Becky McNally, Carol Burling, Pam Gay and Mike Fontayne. Norm started his career in 1960 going to work at Michiana Midget Motors, Inc. DBA Target Distributing. After 28 years there, Norm acquired the business and continued to grow the company worldwide, until his passing. Norm was also and avid go-cart racer, racing for nearly 30 years. In 2012, the World Karting Association inducted Norm in the WKA Hall of Fame for his championships, his support and inspiration to the sport that he dearly loved. Norm also spent 47 years on the bowling lanes, capturing many league and tournament titles during his career. In 2004, the South Bend Bowling Association inducted Norm in the Bowling Hall of Fame for his superior performance and his love and respect for the sport. Norm was also a member of the Army National Guard Reserves for 6 years. 3545 N. 3545 N.
