Norman E. Cottrell, 88

North Greenbush Norman E. Cottrell, 88, of North Greenbush Road, died Friday at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center Albany, after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Norman E. Cottrell Sr. and Magdelena Fiedler Cottrell and husband of the late Rosa M. Riglione Cottrell. He had resided in the Troy and Schenectady areas, then New York City and later back to East Greenbush and was educated at Troy Public School 16, Troy High School class of 1930 and attended the University of Alabama.

Mr. Cottrell was employed as a security guard for the New York State Department of Education for many years retiring in 1970. Prior to that he worked in the same capacity at American Locomotive and General Electric.

He was a member of the New York State National Guard, the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars in Albany and Averill Park, the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church in Troy and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an excellent marksman and also loved horses.

Survivors include two sisters Mildred M. Cottrell and Edna M. Cottrell both of North Greenbush.
