Normalie J. Fortney, 91, of Williamsport, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, February 14, 2019 at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport.

Born March 1, 1927 in Williamsport she was a daughter of the late Elmer J. and Fern E. (Getz) Hughes.  She married James R. Fortney on September 11, 1954, and shared 64 loving years with him until his passing on April 22, 2018.

Normalie grew up in Newberry and was a 1945 graduate of Williamsport High School. Following high school, she began working at the Bank of Newberry (Northern Central Bank) where she continued as a teller for 42 years. James and Normalie spent the majority of their life residing in Old Lycoming Township surrounded by neighbors that became family, until their move into the Williamsport Home Apartments.

She was a member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, where she sang with the choir.  Normalie and her husband enjoyed camping, taking trips to Canada, going out to eat, and making ice cream. She especially loved the QVC network, playing cards and spending time at the Wheel Inn and Salt Run Hunting Club with her family.

Surviving are a son Marc S. Fortney and his wife Laura, of Jersey Shore; and two granddaughters, Rebecca and Jennifer Fortney.
