Obituary of Norma J. Patterson

Patterson, Norma J., of Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2019 at her daughter’s home. She was born on June 11, 1928 in Saginaw to the late Arthur and Frieda (Kaufman) Tillock. Norma met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Patterson, while working together at Standard Oil Company. She and Bob were married on October 24, 1953 in the living room of the home they built together on Wake Street. She worked for several tax seasons for the Saginaw Township Treasurer’s Department but spent the majority of her life as a devoted wife, mother, daughter and daughter-in-law. In 1983, Norma was awarded the Carnation Community Service Award by the Saginaw County Department of Social Services for her volunteer work at Saginaw Community Village. She was instrumental in the development of the first Strawberry Festival at the Community Village which continues with great success to this day. Norma was a charter member of Countryside Presbyterian Church. She was currently a faithful member of the now Countryside Trinity Church where she most recently served as financial secretary until her passing.
Surviving are her daughter, Lori and her husband Edward J. Halase; her “favorite grandson,” Robert T. “Rob” Halase (of whom she was so proud); her niece, Barbara and her husband, Ronald Bullotta; a great nephew, two great nieces and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 and a half years, Robert E. Patterson; her son, Mark Alan Patterson; her parents, Arthur and Frieda Tillock; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Thomas and Ione (Broaddus) Patterson; and her brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Robert and Harriet Tillock.
Norma’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the care and support provided by Covenant VNA Hospice. Norma will be deeply missed but her loved ones take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited in heaven with her beloved, Bob.
