Norma Laurene (Hartranft) Helm, 92, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017, after a brief battle with colon cancer.

She was born December 17, 1924, in Elkhart, Indiana to Lester J. and Alta F. (Shaff) Hartranft, at the home of her grandparents J.W. and Cora (Young) Shaff.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (husband, Karl) Borsodi of Mishawaka, Indiana; three sons, Mike (wife, Kathy) Helm of Lafayette, Indiana, Patrick Helm of Harvest, Alabama, Steve (wife, Lisa) Helm of Washington, Michigan; ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois (husband, John) Findley of West Lafayette, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen Maxine Hartranft, in infancy.

Norma was a graduate of Riley High School in South Bend, and a graduate of Indiana University in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Art and Music. Later in life, her passion for art was renewed and she enjoyed painting. She was a member of the Northern Indiana Artists Association and her art was featured in many places near South Bend. She currently has a work of art permanently displayed at the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart, Indiana.
