Norban Daniel (Dan) Welsh was born in Dallas, Texas on September 23, 1927 to his parents Albert Daniel Welsh and Ollie Mae Crofford Welsh. In his early days he was called Danny (some still do) but when he got to junior high he went by Dan. Dan was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Junior ROTC and after graduation went directly into the Navy during World War II. After boot camp he joined the Seebees and was a baker on board a ship bound for Guam when the war ended. Upon his return, his best friend from high school, Smitty, introduced him to his little sister Betty and they were married in April of 1947. They were married 55 years when Betty preceded him in death. They had two girls, Glenda and Gloria. Dan said that both of his girls were his boys but would not have traded either one of them. Dan worked for Southwestern Life Insurance for 8 years and then for IBM for 30 years, first as a serviceman and then in sales. IBM took Dan and his family from Dallas to San Angelo and then to Oklahoma City. He was often the leading sales rep. in selling the brand new Selectric typewriter. While in San Angelo, Dan was President of the Jaycees. In 1991, Dan retired and he and Betty moved to Boerne, Texas. Since living here, Dan has been very active in the Rainbow Senior Center. Dan is preceded in death by his wife Betty, his second wife Jalene. He survived by his daughter Glenda Welsh of Oklahoma City, his daughter Gloria Sherrill and son-in-law, Jim of Katy, Texas and soon to be Boerne, his granddaughter Allyson Jane Hamlin and grandson-in-law,Richard and their son Hudson and they are expecting Hailey Marie in July.
