After a wonderful, productive, and blessed life our special Aunt with a heart of gold and unconditional love for family, Nora Beth White, 92, of Boerne, went home to Heaven to be with our dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, January 21, 2019.
Nora was born on April 20, 1926 in Alice, TX to parents Virgil Eugene and Minnie Ann Bird. She grew up on a farm in Alice, where she enjoyed helping her daddy with activities on the farm. Her favorite thing to do with her daddy was to ride in the horse and buggy to check on the animals, and she loved to go barefoot. Her daddy would say, “As soon as we leave the house you can take those shoes off, honey.” Another thing she enjoyed as a young girl was making mud pies with eggs she took from the hens. Her mother would get upset, but her daddy would just laugh and say, “That’s OK, honey.” Nora was quite the Daddy’s Girl!
Nora graduated from Alice High School, and started working at Alice National Bank on her 18th birthday. She met and married Jim White, and they were married for 20 years. She had no children of her own, but she took it upon herself to help her sisters with their children, and she loved all of her nieces and nephews as though they were her own. Nora loved to spend time with her best friend, coworker and neighbor Sally Collier. They enjoyed fishing, hunting and dancing. Another personal love of hers was her love of cats. She could never turn one away and all of her cats were strays that she adopted.
During her travels between Alice and San Antonio she would use her CB radio and communicate with other travelers, becoming known as the “Purple Lady”.
After 48 years of employment with the Alice Bank, Nora retired and moved to her lake house on Mathis Lake. She lived there until moving to Morningside Ministries, an assisted living community, where she resided for 5 years. She was able to live there by the loving and gracious blessing provided by Doug and Beverly Archer.
Nora is survived by her niece, Martha Jones; her great nieces, Amy Miles (Jim), Beverly Archer (Doug), Barbra Campbell (Johnny), and Brittany Jones; and several great-great nieces and nephews.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Eugene and Minnie Ann Bird; her sisters, Lucille McVay, Norma Lee Smith, and Charlotte Fawcus; her brother, Cecil Bird; and her great-great nephew, Shawn Miles.
