Noma (Prince) McClure, age 82, died February 9, 2015, in Anderson, following a brief illness.

Born in Brocton, Illinois, on November 20, 1932, she grew up in Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Alabama, and Kentucky. She graduated from Athens High School in 1951 and St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1956, both in Lexington, Kentucky; she also attended Nazareth College (now Spalding University) in Louisville, Kentucky. Widowed at age 22 with two young children, she worked as a registered nurse at Our Lady of Peace Hospital and Central State Hospital in Louisville, coming to Anderson on her second marriage in 1961.

During a number of years as a homemaker she volunteered with the Cub Scouts, 7th Street School, Anderson High School, United Cerebral Palsy, Head Start, and a number of church and civic organizations. Numerous hobby and craft interests included antiques, miniatures, dolls and doll-making, furniture refinishing, stained glass, and heirlooms and collectibles including wooden boxes, mid-century head vases, British royalty souvenirs, coins, and glassware of many eras.

Her passion for decorating culminated in her home being featured on the local tour of homes in the early 1980s. Prior to her retirement in 1989, she worked in the alcohol and chemical dependency unit of St. John’s Hospital and at the Anderson Center. In recent years she was also an active member of the Socrates Café and the Madison County Bicentennial Stamp Club; previously she attended the First, Meadowbrook, and Highland American Baptist churches.

She is survived by four sons, Joseph McClure of Northglenn, Colorado; Mark McClure of Ordway, Colorado; Matthew McClure of Schaumburg, Illinois; and Paul McClure of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Mona Arnold of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; Reva Arnold of Oxford, Mississippi; and Lois Hill of Lexington, Kentucky; daughters-in-law Nancy McClure and Kathy McClure; five granddaughters, Brandi, Amy, Mariah, Katie, and Maggie; seven great-grandchildren; 19 nieces and nephews; best friend, Peggy Land man; and many friends at Primrose Retirement, where she had lived since 2011.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, M. Kenneth McClure, and previous husband James M. Thorn.
