Nolan Fay “Bud” Emerson, 76, passed away at United Hospital Center Wednesday, December 11, 2013 following an extended illness. He was born in Bristol, WV on June 12, 1937, the son of William Fay Emerson and Mary Clarice Davis Emerson. After graduating from Bristol High School in 1956, he married Mary Juanita Matthey Emerson, his loving wife of fifty six years, who survives in Clarksburg. Also surviving are three daughters and their spouses; Carrie and Carl Brainard of Palestine, WV, Mary and Kevin Lough of Whitehall, WV, Sandy and Brian Funk of Culpeper, VA; grandchildren include Loren (Toni) Brainard, Benjamin (Kimberly) Brainard, Aaron (Karrie) Brainard; Jacob (Faith) Lough, Caleb Lough, Trevor and Haleigh Funk; Great-grandchildren Eli and Wade Brainard; twin sister,Nola McKain and Norma Sadler of Parkersburg, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Burl Emerson. He was a member of Poppy’s Walker Relay for Life Team, FFA, Sportsman Lake; retirees of Equitable gas, and a member of Tenmile Church of Christ. Bud was dedicated to the Tenmile Church of Christ, his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as many others that thought of him as a father. He was a strong supporter of Harrison County Relay for life; spending hours raising money so that others might not suffer cancer. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting and passed that love on to his son-in-laws and grandchildren. He was the go-to for many when they needed advice about fixing cars, carpentry and living a Christian life. He passes on a strong work ethic. His daughters knew the love of “Daddy’s Hands.” He will be missed but never forgotten.
