Niles A. Stickler, Sr., 70, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital in South Bend, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was the youngest of six children born to Elmer and Dora Stickler, who preceeded him in death, along with his siblings, Rosetta Chapman, Barbara Mudrovich, Betty Julien, Elna Donze and Elmer Stickler, Jr. and twin grandsons, Niles and Theodore Taelman.

Niles married the love of his life, Linda Lung, on January 16, 1960, and they shared 47 beautiful years together. They were blessed with 4 children, Dorene Taelman and her children, Jeremy (Alicia), Ashley and Amanda of South Bend; Ginger (Tom) VanBergen and their children, Chelsea and Tommy of Lawrenceville, GA; Niles Jr. (Kim) and their children, Devyn and Niles III of South Bend and Special Son, Jimmy Cole of Mishawaka, IN. Niles is survived by 2 great-grandsons, Jeremy, Jr. and Jordan Taelman. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Niles served his country in the Army from March 12, 1956, to March 11, 1959, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and was honorably discharged. He retired in 1998 from Preston Trucking Co., where he was a heavy duty truck mechanic.

Niles loved working with wood and could just about make anything. He loved making furniture, toys, hope chests for his daughters and toy boxes for all the grandchildren. How lucky you were to receive a piece of his fine workmanship.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Michael Steinberg and all the physicians and staff of the West Wing who assisted in the care of Niles during his stay at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. We could not have made it without all of you supporting us during this most difficult time.
