In Nevada, Texas on March 2, 1915, Nettie Oneta Bowman was born to Prentess and Myrtle Bowman. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters and lived in Nevada until she turned 21.
At 21 years old she moved to Dallas and was introduced shortly thereafter to the love of her life. She was introduced by who would become her sister-in-law to W. R. Kellum and married him on July 17, 1938. They had 3 daughters, June Kellum Gilleland, Carolyn Sue Hill and Wynona Stone and a baby boy named Wendell Ray who died shortly after birth. Oneta and W. R. remained in Dallas and were long-time residents until retirement when they moved to Lake Tawakoni.
Oneta was a member of the Rebekah’s for over 20 years and served her Lord and Savior over the many years telling the story of Christ and His love for each one of us.
Oneta was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, husband, W. R. Kellum, daughter, Carolyn Sue Hill, and baby boy, Wendell Ray. She was known to many by Momma, Mother and Mamaw. Oneta is survived by her daughters, June Kellum Gilleland and Wynona Stone, 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren, lots of nieces, nephews and friends.
Oneta passed away on October 6, 2016 at the age of 101. She was surrounded by her two daughters, many grandchildren and some of her great grandchildren.
