Nelson P. Schippers passed away Thursday morning, November 26, 2015.
Nelson was born January 3, 1930, in Kalamazoo the son of James and Fannie (Yzenbaard) Schippers and had been a lifelong resident in Kalamazoo.
He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Nelson was a member of Bethany Reformed Church and worked at Western Michigan University for 35 years until his retirement in 1999. On July 16, 1954, he was united in marriage to his loving wife of 61 years, the former Helen Taylor, who survives.
He is also survived by his sons, Mike Schippers and Mark Schippers; sisters, Ruth (Richard) Haase, and Shirley (Bob) McCarty; a sister-in-law, Ann Schippers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nelson was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister, Adrian, James, Robert, and Louise.
