Nelson Sjostrand, better known as Buster, was born in Vancouver, Washington in 1941 to Nels and
Pauline Sjostrand. He was their only child. He was baptized on April 1, 1942. They moved to Denver,
Colorado in 1951. Buster initially began high school at Englewood High School. After a dare to drive his
car down the stairs at the baseball game, and probably other incidents, he enrolled at Denver Lutheran.
He was in the first four-year class and graduated in 1959. He first saw Marlene after chapel in the
grange. It was love at first sight. They were married in 1959. They had three children: Teri, Liz and Leif.
He was recruited to drive an ambulance in high school and spent many nights at Bullock’s Mortuary.
Buster attended the University of Colorado at Denver. He worked in the trucking industry for 54 years
and retired from Consolidated Freightways and May Trucking. He knew everyone and no one was a
stranger if Buster was around. He loved people, first and foremost his family!

Buster had season tickets to the Broncos since 1970 and enjoyed his Bronco family. He had season
tickets to the University of Denver hockey games since 1975, also to the Rockies and Cheyenne Frontier
Days. Buster truly enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas. He was very generous and giving.
Buster is survived by his loving wife, Marlene. His children, Teri (Tim) Cueva, Liz (Blaine) Rollins and Leif
(Maile) Sjostrand; Grandchildren: Kristian, Brielle, Gunther, Trinity, Kealia, Logan, Meleani, and Keahi;
and Great-Grandchildren: Leroy and Millie.
