To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.  Psalms 25:1

Nellie R. Harley was called to be with our Lord and Savior on January 15th, 2016.  She is a blessing to all those who have had the privilege to know her. Born to Mary and Andrew Robertson on December 29, 1928, Nell was the fifth of six children, with three sisters and two brothers. Her husband, Walter D. Harley, her parents, her siblings, and one granddaughter preceded her in death. She is survived by her five daughters (Carlan Green, Deborah Dillon, Teresa Reding, Sandra Gatlin, and Denise Pabst), three sons-in-law (Mac Dillon, Steve Gatlin, and Gary Pabst), 11 grandchildren (Chris Green, Jason Green, Jennifer Staten, Rebecca Reding, Shawnli Gatlin, Christina Hullinger, Katie Gatlin, Emily Gatlin, Kevin Pabst, Joseph Pabst, and Sarah Pabst), 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Nell started her career as a keypunch operator in the accounting department with Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance in Birmingham, Alabama.

Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down. She immediately dug in her heels and did whatever was necessary to help Walt with the building of the E.H. Pullum Senior Center in Navarre, Florida.  She never sought the spotlight, but her behind-the-scene efforts were crucial to the success of this development. She served as Treasurer of the Holley-Navarre Seniors Association for many years.  In addition, Nell spent many years delivering Meals on Wheels and working with Caring and Sharing in Navarre, as she was dedicated to serving those less fortunate.

Nell was an avid gardener and was always outside working in the yard. For the latter part of her life, her yard was nearly 4 acres and at times included a variety of other wildlife (cows, pigs, and chickens) as well as crops. Nell and Walt were known for their generosity in sharing fresh fruit and vegetables with co-workers and neighbors alike. She was an active member of the Santa Rosa Clean Community Council, part of the Keep America Beautiful Program.
