Nellie Evelyn Heward
03.07.1933 – 11.03.2021
Nellie Evelyn Heward passed away November 3, 2021, in Clinton, Utah. Born March 7, 1933, in Phoenix Arizona, Nellie was one of 9 children born to Earl Kirkpatrick and Elva Irene (Tillotson) Kirkpatrick. She loved her father dearly and told her children many stories of him. Her father suffered lung damage from the mustard gas he was exposed to during his service in World War I in the Rainbow division. As a result, he moved his family frequently to various locations in the southwest until he passed when Nellie was 13 years old. Her mother continued to move the family until all were settled with their own families.
Moving frequently growing up prepared her for her life with her husband Erwin Dee Heward, an airman in the US Air Force. They married on June 7, 1958, in Aurora, Colorado. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Swiss Temple. By then their family of 3 boys, one stillborn daughter, and one surviving daughter, was complete, and sealing happened that same day.
Serving as a genealogy teacher in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints inspired Nellie to work on her family history. She became the research expert for us and many of her siblings tapped into her findings.
She was a loving mother to all her children who she always said she loved equally but we all learned that in her final 3 years she loved playing with her great-great-grandson, Jesse the best. Love you to pieces NaNa!
She is survived by her daughter Debra of Roy, UT; sons Donald(Priscilla)Heward of Kent, WA and Vern (Sherri) Heward of Roy, UT; daughter-in-law Donna Heward of San Bernardino, CA; brother Jim Kirkpatrick of Oceanside, CA; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Erwin; son Bruce; daughter Myra; her sisters Helen, Martha, Phyllis, Carol, Doris, Barbara, and Mary.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Barrington Place, Inspiration Hospice, and McKay Dee Hospital for the care they gave Mom.
