Nellie A. Dobek, 92, widow of the late Frank J. Dobek, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014. She was born in and lived in New Britain for all but the past two months. She was the daughter of the late Anna (Sienkiewicz) and Michael Kucharski. Nellie attended New Britain public schools and graduated from New Britain High School in 1940. From 1941-48, she worked at Landers, Frary & Clark. She married Frank Dobek in 1945 and had a loving marriage for 54 years. In addition to raising her family, she worked as a receptionist for 10 years at Surgical Associates and another 10 years for the law firm of Januszewski, McQuillan & DeNigris before retiring in 1984. Nellie was an original member and lifelong communicant of Holy Cross Catholic Church and belonged to its Rosary Society. For many years, she helped out different parish and school functions, such as making pierogis and volunteering for the annual parish bazaar.Nellie leaves three sons: Robert of Washington, DC, Gerald (widower of the late Ann Formica Dobek), and his wife Kathy of Colchester, CT and Jeffrey and his wife Carolyn of Havre de Grace, MD. She also leaves four grandchildren whom she dearly loved: Gregory Dobek and his wife, Courtney of Killeen, TX, Chris Dobek of Washington, DC, Steven Dobek of San Francisco and Lizzie Dobek of Havre de Grace, MD; a sister-in-law Patricia (Billie) Dobek and two nephews and five nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Leo best friend and sister-in-law Miss Gene Dobek was always there for her. Indeed, the entire Dobek family was her second family: her mother-in-law the late Bernice Dobek; and brothers-in-law the late Walter Dobek and the late John Dobek, both of whom were teachers in the New Britain school system. Nellie spent four years at St. Lucian’s residence in New Britain. There she made many friends, especially administrator, Mother Jennifer who provided friendship and counseling. Nellie will be missed by the many people who knew and loved her.
