We stand in a space and time where the next moment is unpredictable and days are precious and valuable. Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Nathaniel Sheridan Holland, Jr., affectionally known as “Nate” by friends and colleagues.Because he mimicked his father’s adult behaviors while a toddler, his parents called him “Man” and it stuck within hisfamily. In fact, most extended family members refer to Nathaniel as “Man” and will remember him warmly as such.
The world shifted on February 10th. The year was 1966, and history was being made in Columbus, Ohio, as Nathaniel Sheridan Holland, Jr., was gifted to earth. Blessed under the protection of his mother Gloria Jean Graves and father Nathaniel S. Holland, Sr., he was molded in strength and love from the beginning.
Years went on and his natural gifts flourished. A born athlete, Nathaniel’s exceptional basketball, baseball, and football skills stunned coaches in the United States and Germany, fromelementary school to senior high school. Due to his father’s U.S. Armed Forces career, Nathaniel’s stellar athleticism was seenthroughout this country and abroad. In addition to his earlyacademic achievements, Nathaniel held an Associate degreefrom Columbus State Community College. Furthermore, he wasa graduate of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA).
On Sunday, October 10, 2021, our beloved and cherished Nathaniel Sheridan Holland, Jr., returned to his creator. Left to cherish his memory and carry his legacy are life partner Vandella P. Amistead, daughters, Brittany S. Holland and India Holland, son Rameses Holland, Mother Gloria J. Graves, FatherNathaniel S. Holland. Sr., brothers Mark A. Cardell, and Curtez A. Graves, sisters Toni F. Crump, Yvette R. Evans (Rev. Donald T. Evans, Sr.), Kinisha Holland, and Yvonne Stargell (Rev. Dr. Graylin Stargell). Nathaniel and Vandella did not use the phrase stepchildren. Therefore, daughters Kamika (Kevin) and Camilleare left to cherish his memory as well. Additionally, he is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, bonus children, bonus grandchildren, and friends. Nathaniel(affectionally called “Nate” and “Man”) will be remembered as aloving father, a wonderful son, a great nephew, a Masonic brother, an intellect, a great listener, and a faithful friend.
