NATHANIEL CHARLES JOHNSON.

Our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend Nathaniel Charles Johnson returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 9, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Nathaniel was born on September 2, 1923 in Osceola, Arkansas to Ruth Pryor
Johnson and Anderson Johnson. Nathaniel grew up in Belleville, Illinois and attended high school in Belleville, where he ran track and played football. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana Champagne on a football scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering with Minors in Math and Physics. He was enrolled in the ROTC program and received his commission in the US Army upon graduation. While serving in the army he received the medal of Good Conduct award and the WWII Victory Medal.
He married Leetha Sanders in 1964. From this union, two children were born.

A son, Baynard Nathaniel Johnson and a daughter Penniston Jeanine Johnson. He also had a step-son, Larry Charles Sanders. He had five grandchildren, four nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and two sisters. He was a member of Embry Chapel AME church. He served on the trustee board for many years. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and served as President of the Graduate Chapter for several years. Nathaniel was also a founding member of the Pioneer Investors Club.
