Nathan O. Cox, 71, of rural Virginia, IL died Monday, January 26, 2015, at his residence.

He was born April 22, 1943 in Cass County, the son of Oliver and Melissa McClure Cox. He married Janet K. Bottens and they divorced. He later married Kris Tumbleson on June 30, 1991 in Cass County and she survives.

He is also survived by his mother, Melissa Cox of Virginia; two daughters, Sharon Jarrell (husband, John) of Clarksville, TN and Tammy Fleenor (husband, Dale) of Virginia; four grandchildren, Ashley DeFrates (husband, Kerry) of Jacksonville, Sarah Jarrell of Clarksville, TN, Whitney Fleenor of Virginia, and Rita Jarrell of Clarksville, TN; five siblings, Jerri Jo Kingston (husband, Bob) of Janesville, WI, Nora Chapman (husband, Donald) of Virginia, George Cox (wife, Glenda) of Chandlerville, Dale Cox (wife, Coni) of Virginia, and Mary Ann Newbern (husband, Wes) of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Lucy Chilton.

Nathan was employed at the Virginia Packing Company prior to beginning a career in farming. In addition to his farming, he served as road commissioner for Sangamon Valley Township and operated a custom baling service. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his dogs, Buddy and Melody.
