Nathan Joseph Genovese, 98, of Plainville, surrounded and embraced by his loving family, was carried on angel’s wings into the presence of his Lord on December 15, 2011.

Nathan was the son of Salvatore and Lucia (Mallia) Genovese Rizza. He was the beloved husband of his wife, Eve (Rizza) Genovese for almost fifty years, who predeceased him in 2002. Their glorious reunion took place upon his arrival, for their love was made whole again.

After a tragic accident at the age of 18 claimed the life of his dear cousin, Sam, Nathan came to know the Lord Jesus as his Savior.  His faith and trust in the Lord was ignited by the gift of eternal life which was evident in his testimony from that day forward.  He served full time as a Pastoral Assistant for 20 years at Bethel Christian Missionary Alliance, where he met the future love of his life, Eve.

Nathan proudly served his country during WWII in the Coast Guard as a ship’s Captain, ferrying soldiers in the NY Harbor to Hoffman Island base. Then he went on to serve as a Navy Merchant Marine on a T-2 Tanker transporting fuel to England for our troops.

Nathan leaves behind four daughters, Debbie and husband, Angelo DiPietro, Holly Genovese, Claudia Genovese—Smith and husband Wes Smith, and Bernice and husband Bill Peets.

He was affectionately called “Papa” by his eleven grandchildren, Angela DiPietro Coy and husband Ryan Coy, Lisa and husband, Eric Younger and Jonathan and wife Lindsey DiPietro, Kristen DiPietro, Nathaniel and Rachel Smith, Kathryn and Alexis Peets. He was “Big Papa” to 3 great grandchildren, Joshua and Jenna Coy and Kara Younger.

He leaves his dear brother, Samuel and wife Dolly Genovese and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Angelina “Jean” Draper Crowley and Lydia Rizza and three brothers, Sebastian, Joseph, Louie Genovese and a nephew, Reuben Rizza.

Nathan was a kind and generous man. He will be remembered by so many because he touched so many lives with his words of wisdom and steadfast encouragement. He will be immensely missed by his loved ones. We rejoice that he is safe with our Lord and anticipate our reunion with him one day.
