Nancy Louise (Uland) Wenzler, 86, of Bloomington, passed away at the Meadowood Retirement Community on May 26, 2014.
Born on December 4, 1927, Nancy grew up the only child of Zenos and Emma (Robertson) Uland. A bright and talented child, she skipped grades and played piano, flute, piccolo and accordion. She began performing professionally at the age of 6 and quickly became a popular local entertainer. During WWII, while still in Bloomington High School, she was recruited to become one of the first women in the Indiana University Marching 100. After graduating from high school, she went to Indiana University and became a medical technician. She then worked in cancer research in Indianapolis.
On November 23, 1950, Nancy married Paul Jordan Wenzler, M.D. They spent 2 years in the Air Force before returning to Bloomington. Nancy was active in Tri Kappa and generously supported a variety of civic and political organizations. Paul had a successful Family Practice and was active in the Indiana State Medical Association. Nancy was a life- long member of the Church of Christ and for many years they were members of the North Central congregation. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her son, Michael Paul Wenzler, M.D., his wife Marcy and their children Ryan and Rachel; her sons, Richard Bruce Wenzler, M.D., his wife Val Corcoran, M.D. and their sons Patrick and Richard; and by her daughter, Cheryl Ann (Wenzler) Haskell, her husband Guy and their children Samuel, Jacob and Sarah. Nancy was intelligent woman; an engaged social citizen; and devoted wife; loving and warm mother and grandmother. She is sorely missed.
