Nancy Violet Cowin, died Sunday night, January 13, 2013 at Virtua Hospital in Mt. Holly at the age of 89. Mrs. Cowin was born in Cardross, Dumbartonshire, Scotland and was a longtime Burlington resident before moving to her current residence in Columbus.

She was a graduate of Kearny High School in Kearny, NJ and the Catherine Gibbs School of Business in Newark, NJ. She was an active leader in the Eastern Star, a former board member of the Mt. Holly Childrens Home, and a member of the Providence Presbyterian Church since 1964, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She was also a Past President of the Women’s Club of Burlington, and was one of the founders of the Day in the Park Celebration in Burlington City. Nancy was also very active in fundraising for charity, often assisting a different cause each year.

She was an accomplished violinist who also enjoyed the theater and would make frequent trips to New York to see shows on Broadway. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She also enjoyed a lifelong love affair with the ocean and spent as much time as possible at the Jersey shore. Nancy was also a devoted bridge player and substituted in many different groups sometimes playing three times a week.

Despite all her activities and involvements, Nancy will most be remembered by her family as a devoted, loving, and wonderful mother. Wife of the late Douglas B. Cowin, she is survived by her children Douglas J. Cowin of Burlington, NJ; Jeffrey A. Cowin, Esq. of Pottstown, PA; Dr. James S. Cowin of Cambridge, OH; Lesley Voonasis of Fairfield, CT; and Donald Cowin of Blackwood, NJ, as well as her nine grandchildren.
