THE REVEREND MONSIGNOR JOHN A. RUSEK
Retired resident of Holy Family Villa, Bethlehem, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the age of 77.
A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John A. Rusek and Wanda Marie Petner Rusek. He attended Saint John Cantius Elementary School and Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, and the Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia, PA.
Monsignor Rusek was ordained to the Priesthood on May 15, 1958 at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Archbishop John F. O’Hara.
Monsignor’s assignments were as a Professor at Allentown Central Catholic High School; Diocesan Moderator, Educational Television; Assistant to the Principal, Allentown Central Catholic High School; Principal, Nativity BVM High School, Pottsville; Principal and Chaplain, Bethlehem Catholic High School; Assistant Pastor, Saint Paul Church, Reading and Principal, Notre Dame High School, Easton.
He was in residence at the following parishes: Saint Francis of Assisi, Allentown; Saint Stanislaus, Bethlehem; Sacred Heart, Allentown; Mary Queen of Peace, Pottsville; Notre Dame of Bethlehem and Saint Jane Frances de Chantal, Easton.
SURVIVORS
Monsignor Rusek is survived by a sister, Mildred T. Rusek, Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Rusek, Sarasota, FL; and a niece and great-niece.
Concelebrants will be The Most Reverend Thomas J. Welsh, Retired Bishop of Allentown; The Reverend Monsignor Gerald E. Gobitas, Chancellor, Secretary for Clergy and Secretary to the Bishop and The Reverend John P. Conte, Holy Family Villa, Bethlehem. The Reverend John P. Conte will also serve as the Homilist.
