  • Date Of Death: December 16, 2021

Ms. Tammie Denise Russell, the only child born to Thomas Earl Russell and Everleen Johnson Russell on February 7, 1968, departed her earthly life for eternal life on December 16, 2021 after a lengthy illness.

Tammie was raised in a Christian home by her parents and accepted Christ at an early age. As a child, she joined Jordan Grove AME Zion Church where she was active in the Usher Board, Children and Youth Choirs, Youth Council, and Sunday School.  As she got older, she developed love for children and youth. Because of that love, she was named Director of the Youth Department. She always made sure that the children and youth were taken care of on special days by ensuring that they received a bag of treats. As her health began to decline, she still made sure that the children were remembered.

She was educated in the Chatham County School System, graduating with the Class of 1987 from Jordan Matthews High School. Tammie continued her education, attending Central Carolina Community College enrolling in the Criminal Justice Program. Due to her zeal for helping others, she gained employment at Durham County Community Living Program where she was a Direct Support Professional/House Manager caring for Special Needs Clients. She enjoyed her job and her clients. She continued  working until her health further declined.

On June 26, 1995, her only child Tambria was born. Tam, as she called her, was the light of her life. She often talked about how proud she was of her accomplishments and how she has grown to be successful, but most importantly, God fearing with a love for the Lord.

Tammie was preceded in death by many family members to include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and a school friend, Koketta Brooks.

Leaving to cherish her memories: her daughter, Tambria Marsh, her mother, Everleen Johnson Russell, her father; Thomas Earl Russell, God sister; Cynthia Burnette, God brother; Antonio Thompson, and four Godchildren; Carli, Jailyn, Joshlyn, Maisen, Makailyn and Nii. She also leaves to mourn her loss; uncles, aunts, cousins and her longtime school friends; Robin Craven, Tanya Howze, Kim Jordan, Susan Mapp, Regina Rodriquez and her special lifelong sister-friend/BFF Tammie Strickland-Jordan.
