Mrs. Mildred Rachel Goins Cheek was born on January 9, 1955 in Chatham County to the late Floyd Binnon Goins and Beatrice Glover Goins. She departed this life, Wednesday March 1, 2023 at Chatham Hospital.

At an early age she joined Glovers United Church of Christ and was secretary and over the youth department, until her health declined. She was a very faithful and active member at Glovers. She enjoyed decorating the church for different occasions and making programs for the church.

Rachel attended Chatham High, Chatham Central High School, and Central Carolina Community College. She retired from the University of North Carolina after 20 + years of service. She was a supervisor and loved every moment of it, she would always call her staff her boys and she had a special hand with all of them.

On October 2, 1971 in South Carolina, she married her high school sweet heart, Harry Cheek. To this union three children were born. She was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend that will be missed by all.

Rachel loved the beach and loved to go as much as possible. She enjoyed taking trips with her sisters and family.

One of her favorite sayings was my daddy gave us the perfect last name “Goins” because we love to go places.

She is preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law, Fletcher Cheek.

She leaves to cherish in her memory her husband, Harry Fletcher Cheek; two sons, Harry Jermaine Cheek and Sedrick Jerome Cheek both of Bennett; one daughter, Tamara Rashell Cheek of Siler City; two grandchildren, Sarah Christine Cheek of Siler City and Devin Jermaine Cheek of Bennett; two sisters, Faye Hoskins (Eugene) of Asheboro and Mary Matthews of Bennett; one brother, Floyd “Pee Wee” Goins (Jane) of Bennett; mother-in-law, Mary Cheek of Goldston; eight sisters-in-law; nine brother-in-law; two bonus sisters, Linda Juhlin of Siler City and Eva Brewer of Greensboro. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
