Deaconess Mary Ellen Bland departed this life on Saturday, May l, 2010. She was born in Chatham County, North Carolina on May 20, 1916 to the late Ed and Ollie Rives.
She joined St. Luke United Church Of Christ at an early age in Goldston, North Carolina and served faithfully on the Deaconess Board until her health failed her.
She married Henry Bland in l939, who preceded her in death in l995. To this union four children were born, two of which, Robert and John Bland, preceded her in death.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Elizabeth Stone of Washington, D.C. and Priscilla Bland Newby of Goldston, N.C.; three grandchildren, Claudine Skinner, Augustus Stone and Felicia Bland Butler; two grandsons-in-law, Erik Skinner and Aaron Butler; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Hooker and Elizabeth Davis; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
