Mrs. Marjorie Ann Key Burnside, 83, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on January 22, 2021 at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home in Valley, Alabama.

 

Mrs. Burnside was born in Roanoke, Alabama, on March 22, 1937 to the late John Rodger Key and Bessie Corean Bennett Key. 

 

In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Morgan Burnside.

 

Mrs. Burnside was a long-time member of the Lanett First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served faithfully as a member of many different church committees.

 

Mrs. Burnside grew up in Roanoke, Alabama and graduated from Handley High School in 1955.  She attended and graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education.  Mrs. Burnside started teaching in what was Lanier High School in the Lanett City School system and continued in both the Lanett Jr. High and Lanett High School for 32 years.  She retired in the year 2000. 

 

Mrs. Burnside enjoyed serving in her church, reading, cross-stitching, watching and feeding birds in her back yard, shopping, and spending time with friends and family. She also loved spending time with her beloved dogs Maggie and Elvis.

 

Mrs. Burnside is survived by her daughter, Missy Smith (Gary) Smith, Lanett, Alabama and her son, Jeff (Katy) Burnside, Pelham, Alabama;  4 grandchildren, including: Heather (Thomas) Brookshire, Woodstock, Georgia; Emily (Kyle) Kreiter, Madison, Alabama; Kaitlyn (Brent) Traylor, Alabaster, Alabama; and Andrew (Katie) Burnside, Pelham, Alabama. Mrs. Burnside is also survived by 2 great grandchildren: Scarlett Traylor (2, Kaitlyn) and Julia Brookshire (10 months, Heather) and a host of nieces and nephews.
