Loretta Susan Burden Woods, the daughter of Bishop William, Sr. and Grace Burden, was born on March 11, 1950 in Chicago, IL. The family later moved to Marion, Indiana, where she spent her childhood. Loretta attended and graduated from Marion High School, and also attended Indiana Wesleyan College.
She met and married Donald Woods in 1994 and became mom to Bershawna Courtney, and later grandmother to Stevie and “Lil Don.
Loretta, affectionately known as “Corky” to her family and friends, was passionate about fashion. She enjoyed shopping and, at one time, was owner of her own consignment shop.
Loretta made her peaceful transition on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 28 days.
Loretta leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Donald Woods; parents, Bishop William Sr. and Grace Burden; daughter, Bershawna Courtney; two brothers, William “Billy” (LaWanda) Burden, Jr. and Anthony “Tony” Burden; three sisters, Victoria (Valentine) Barela, Michele (Warren) Davis, and Yvonne (Larry)Pettiford; along with three brothers-in-law, Harold (Carolyn Sue, deceased) Woods, Kenneth (Joyce) Woods and Ronald (CeCe) Woods. She also leaves to cherish her memory, two grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
