Mrs. Johnnie Mae French Goldston was born October 20, 1944 and departed this life on May 21, 2022 at UNC Hospice House. She was the daughter of the late Willie Columbus French and Johnny Belle Page French. 

Johnnie Mae was born in Chatham County, attended and graduated from Horton High School, Class of 1963. She joined St. Matthews A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age and remained a faithful member as long as her health permitted. She met and married Mr. Charlie Monroe Goldston and to their union a daughter, Melody Yolanda Goldston, was born. 

Mae worked for many years at the poultry plant and later became a poultry inspector for the USDA. Because of her love for children, she attended Central Carolina Community College and received an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development. Johnnie Mae loved to cook for her family and friends. Her signature dishes included Chicken n’ Dumplings and Deep Dish Pies. In her leisure time, she enjoyed fishing and watching the NBA and Major League Baseball.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; five brothers, Preston Page, Bernice Pate, Artis French, Wade French and William French; a sister, Virginia Carolyn French Watson; and her step son, Sylvester Rodgers. 

Johnnie Mae leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved husband, Mr. Monroe Goldston; their daughter, Ms. Melody Goldston; two step-sons, Mr. Ivan Barrett and Mr. Steve Rives; two sisters, Mrs. Mary French Clark (Phillip Tyrone) and Mrs. Deborah French Laws (Herbert); sister-in-law, Mrs. Veonia Alston (Grady); four aunts, Mrs. Lillian Alston, Mrs. Pauline Page English, Mrs. Delcie French and Mrs. Catherine Page; a special friend, Mrs. Martha Marsh; a close devoted sister-in law, Mrs. Rose Goldston; a close special “son”, Rasheed Boggs; and a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
