Joan A. Bergantzel, daughter of Melvin & Anna Belle (McGraw) Glaser was born October 26, 1933 in Trenton. She entered into rest on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island at the age of 75 years.
She grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1952. Joan was married to William Cooper from 1952 to 1960. She went to work for Rush Clarke, North Platte Airport Manager, in 1963. In 1967, Joan wed Theodore F. Cook. Soon after marriage they moved to Alda, where she worked as a secretary at the Army Ammunitions Plant. In 1969, she returned to North Platte after her husband’s death. She then worked for Rush Clarke until his retirement in 1972, at which time she became the North Platte Airport Manager.
On Jan. 25, 1992, Joan married Lyle Bergantzel of Council Bluffs, Iowa. In May of 1992, she retired and settled down in Wolbach with Lyle.
Joan was active in Scouting, the Elks, and is a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
Joan is survived by her husband, Lyle Bergantzel; three children, Rocky (Brenda) Cook of Bayard, Monte Cook and partner, David Harwood of San Antonio, and Robin (Jerry) Patterson of North Platte; stepchildren, Leland (Nancy) Bergantzel of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Randy (Sharon) Bergantzel of Humphrey and Leana (Mike) Hauxwell of Council Bluffs; a sister, Dorothy (Ron) Fox of Kearney; grandchildren, Ted Cook, Jamie (Rob) Miller, Tanya (Mickey) Wheeler, Tara (Zaven) Lehn, Trisha Richardson; and 14 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Belle Glaser, father, Melvin Glaser; sister, Joyce Wilkins; and an infant granddaughter, Jennifer Lea Cook.
