Mrs. Irene Alston Brewer, was born on March 13, 1929 to the late Bernice and Lula Cook Alston. She passed away at home on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
Irene attended Chatham County Schools and received her GED later from CCCC and also received her CNA Certificate.
Irene joined Glover’s Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Siler City, NC. She attended faithfully until her death. She worked in many capacities of the church. She was a member of the Usher Board, Choir, Deaconess, Sunday School Superintendent, and a delegate to the District Conference for many years.
Irene loved her family and did whatever she could do to help including opening her home to provide a place to stay for many family members including her grandmother, sister, brothers-in-law, uncles, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Irene was a retired USDA inspector; she was also an Avon Representative for over 35 years. She loved cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, sometimes selling her cakes to those that wanted them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Brewer and her daughter, Madeline B. Watson.
She is survived by: her children, Lula M. Dowdy (Wallace), Ella B. Taylor(James), Diana Degraffenreaidt, Ross Brewer Jr., and Rodney Brewer; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine and Mary Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Irene will be missed by her family who loved her dearly.
