Mrs. Ida Mae They White departed from this life on Sunday, March 29,2009. Daughter of the late Walter and Ida Reinhardt They, she was also sister to the late Lillian T. Sens and Myrtle T. Pellettiere, and preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J. Hampden White Jr. (“Hammy”). Mrs. White is survived by her daughter, Darleen Ann White Conlin and son-in-law, Everett C. Conlin Jr.; granddaughter, Kim Julia Conlin Chopin: Kim’s husband, Michael David Chopin and their 4 children (Mrs. White’s great-grandchildren), Katelyn Julia Chopin, Ashlyn Julia Chopin, Michael David Chopin Jr., and Matthew Colin Chopin. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 10, 1926, Mrs. White was a homemaker and did volunteer work with East Jefferson General and Lakeside Hospitals. In August 2005 her residence of almost 50 years on Bellaire Drive (next to the 17th Street Canal) was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Upon her return to New Orleans in September 2005, she and Hammy set up their new household in Metairie, Louisiana. After a courageous battle with emphysema, Mrs. White died peacefully in her home.
