Hazel Marie Marsh, daughter of the late Reverend Robert Marsh Sr and Emma Ward Marsh, was born on June 7, 1931 in Chatham County, NC She departed this life on November 2, 2021 at UNC Hospice in Pittsboro, NC. She was married to the late Graham Goldston Marsh in 1956; to this union five children were born.

Hazel attended the Chatham County Training School as well as Bethel Bible Institute in Sanford, NC. Hazel went on to continue her studies in New York in Infant care. Once she returned to NC, she began private nursing taking care of the elderly. She made it her life-long work of taking care of the elderly even in her last days. Some would say that she was the Queen of Genesis Nursing home. When she entered the building everyone would recognize her presence and speak to her by name, Mrs. Hazel. The patients and staff always wanted to speak and ask her how she was doing. When she transferred to 500 Hall (Alzheimer) she began trying to take care of the other patients by encouraging them to take their medication, pushing them around in their wheelchair, whatever she saw that needed to be done she would go ahead and take care of it.

Hazel accepted Christ at an early age. She was a former member of Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church and Mt. Olive Holy Church in Bear Creek, NC before joining Mt. Calvary Holy Church under the leadership of Elder Murtis Green. She also served under the leadership of Pastor Elder Annie Woodle, Pastor Elder Cora Lee McIver and current Pastor Elder Carolyn Woodle. Hazel served in various capacities such as Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Usher, Missionary, Pastor’s Aide, Youth Ministry and Exceptional Fundraiser. She was always finding ways to assist at the church in her last days. Her heart and soul was about serving God any way she could. She and her sister Elder Cora Lee McIver were tight as could be. Even after her sister’s passing, she spoke of her often. She missed her dearly. Now Minister Mary Belle Marsh, Elder Cora Lee McIver and Hazel are back together again. This trio was always together back in the day. If you saw one the other two were not far behind.

Hazel was an ambitious woman with many gifts and talents that made her a unique Godly vessel, a woman of integrity and character and fit for the Master’s wise. Her life was dedicated to prayer and being submissive to God. As an. experienced and dedicated usher she was able to quiet noisy babies, silence busy children and not to mention talkative teens and still able to make things comfortable for everyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband Graham Goldston Marsh and a host of brothers and sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory: six children, Dennis Marsh of Siler City, NC, Phil Marsh (Maggie) of Sanford, NC, Todd Marsh of Raleigh, NC Janis Marsh (Shelly) of Smithfield, NC, and Kenneth Marsh (Kimberly) of Charlotte, NC; Pastor Amold Headen (Jackie); four grandchildren, Darius Marsh of Greens boro, NC, Kelly Marsh of Smithfield, NC, Kelsie Marsh of Harnett County, NC, Kalita Marsh (Ron) of Jacksonville, FL; three great-grandchildren, Laiya Marsh of Smithfield, NC, Prynceton Marsh of Gibsonville, NC and Mariah Middleton of Jacksonville, FL; two God-children Ryan Marsh of Atlanta, GA and Allison McIver of Bear Creek NC; two sisters-in-law Hattie Marsh of Bear Creek, NC and Elga Marsh of Siler City, NC a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
