Mrs. Grace W. Slade, age 95, of West Point, Georgia passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in LaGrange, Georgia.
Mrs. Slade was born in Pembroke, Georgia on January 11, 1922 to the late Dr. Frank and Eleanor Wilson of Valdosta, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George C. Slade; siblings, Elizabeth Gibson, Frances Johnson, and Dr. Bob Wilson.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Linda and Jack Gibbons, Gastonia, NC, George and Terri Slade, Lanett, AL., Bill and Patti Slade, West Point, GA., Susan and Frankie Ponder, Lanett, AL.; eight loving grandchildren, John (Wendy) Gibbons, Matthew (Michelle) Gibbons, Mark (Jennifer) Gibbons, Amy (Rodney) Smith, Craig (Holly) Slade, Frank (Anne) Ponder, Stefan (Katie) Slade, Slade (Katie) Ponder; fifteen great-grandchildren; host of devoted nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Slade graduated from Valdosta High School and Georgia Florida Business College. She was a member of the Optometric Women’s Auxiliary and a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of West Point. She enjoyed her times through the years with the soup kitchen, Meals on Wheels, and the garden club. She will always be remembered for her wit and fun loving personality. Her generosity and care for her community will be missed.
