Mrs. Arthur Lee Benton Cobb, the daughter of Mr. Oscar Benton and Mrs. Rose Lee Hally Benton, was born on September 28, 1916. The family lived in the Fourth Ward area and later moved to Summer Hill area.

Arthur Lee was preceded in death by her parents and only sibling, Mr. Henry Scott Benton.

During her early education, Arthur Lee was a student of the Atlanta Public School System, where she graduated from David T. Howard Junior High School and Booker T. Washington High School. For her secondary education, she attended Morris Brown College, graduating with a B.S. degree in Education. During her undergraduate years at Morris Brown College, she became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and was a Golden Soror. She also attended advanced studies at Atlanta University and Emory University.

After teaching seven years at the Jonesboro Colored Elementary School in Jonesboro, Georgia, she transferred to Atlanta Public Schools with an assignment to E. C. Clement Elementary School. She was a kindergarten teacher, a fifth and sixth grad teacher. She also served as a Girl Scout and Brownie Scout Leader. She organized the first Boy Scout Troop at Clement Elementary School and was the troop’s leader for many years. The troop won many blue ribbons at the Boy Scout Shows.

In 1935, she married Mr. Dorris Lamar Cobb. They were married for 54 years. People often teased Arthur Lee and Dorris about their names. God gave them a precious gift of His love, a daughter, Alicia Denise.

To carry on her legacy, Arthur Lee leaves the following relatives and friends: Alicia Denise Cobb Chapman, daughter; Arthur Charles Chapman, grandson; Katye Cobb, sister-in-law; Belinda Blackshere, goddaughter; Henri Benton, niece; Barbara Simmons, niece; Liz White, caretaker and Napolean Cobb, nephew.
