William R. “Bill” McGoey passed away June 24, 2010 at the age of 84 after a brief battle with cancer.
Survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Audrey Skeins McGoey; sister, Mary Matto; brother, Gerard McGoey; children, Cheryl Mathis (Bob), Diane Cory (Steve), Eileen Kaufman (Archie), Billy McGoey (Kathy), and John McGoey (Tracey); grandchildren, Chad, Jimmy, Ryan, Stephanie, Dave, Dawn, Jason, Will, Meredith, Chuck and Sean; great grandchildren, Canon and Colt; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph J. and Ella Leahy McGoey, and brothers, Joseph, John and Martin.
Our own WWII hero was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in a Kamikaze attack on the USS Belleau Wood. He was past president of the N.O. Traffic & Trans. Club and an avid golfer and fan of LSU and the Saints. He truly loved God, the Blessed Mother, his family and friends.
There will never be another “My Bill.” Thanks, Billy, for all the love and great memories.
