Vernon Wayne Farris, Jr., better known as “Bug”, was born on August 31st, 1974. He was given the nickname “Bug” because he was so quick. He was the son of Vernon Wayne Newby and Bessie Jean Farris. Although only 46, Bug affected many people in his lifetime. He was deeply committed to his family. He loved his wife, his children, grandson, and was a devoted family man. He made it known that he loved being a husband and father. He made it known to everyone that he came into contact with that family is everything. He was outspoken and comical. No matter how bad he felt, when you saw him out, you would never know it, he didn’t complain. His smile, his character, his style, made him a “one in a million” individual, trust me, you will never meet another Bug! All these things only scraped the surface of who he was as a young man.
Bug loved sports and played baseball in his younger days. His love for sports led him to coaching his children’s recreation football and basketball teams. Coaching allowed him to help many aspiring athletes in the recreational programs by teaching the fundamentals of the game along with good sportsmanship. He loved going to his son’s wrestling matches and football games. He was his biggest fan and never missed a single game from kindergarten, all the way to his last high school football game. Bug was also an avid Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed basketball. He attended Northwood High School in Pittsboro, NC, where he played football and set many school records on the football field. He also enjoyed fishing, keeping his grass cut in a particular pattern, traveling to the casino with his wife, and beach trips with his family before his health declined.
Bug transitioned from this earthly life on Friday, April 23, 2021. He was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandmother Myrtle Farris, Grandfather Odell Farris, and Paternal Grandmother Mary Newby.
