Sherman Norwood transitioned to heaven peacefully on May 14, 2017 at the age of 63.
Sherman was born on February 16, 1954, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Willie Alonza and Margaret Norwood Stinchcomb. He graduated from Smith High School where he was a dedicated member of the marching band. He continued his love for music and helped to form Soulful Brass Band as a trumpet player, while in high school. Sherman went on to Virginia College to continue his education and received an Associate Degree in Primary Education.
Sherman had a kind heart. He was very loving and nurturing. He spent many years as a caregiver for his grandmother and young family members. He later worked several years at Southside Medical Center and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Sherman is survived by his sisters, Berrutha Harper, Gwendolyn Gates and Margaret Phillips. He leaves to cherish a loving aunt, Florrie Capers of South Carolina; and sister-in-laws, Jevern Alonza and Carol Alonza. Sherman was preceded in death by his daughter, Shanreca Walton; brothers, Robert Clarence Alonza; brother, Willie Alonza; and brother, Eugene Alonza.
Sherman will also be fondly missed by his two grandchildren, Brianna Tye and Ke’Ondre Walton; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Sherman has passed the highest mountain and has unbounded freedom. He is lying in comfort and smiling with peace. He will be missed and never forgotten.
